The wind and rain hit a street on Tucsons south east side one night in July 2008. Many electric poles were broken and dropped their power lines onto the houses and sidewalks below. We went out the next morning to take these photos of the aftermath. All different types of crane and lifts and work crews were working on most of the power poles all at the same time. Various cranes and lifts were there to do different jobs like holding damaged power poles off homes and lifting electric company crew to heights to make repairs
Most of the streets and alleys in the area were already closed by early morning after the event
The streets in the area were littered with debris and plant parts blown all around in the heavy wind
As you drove down the street where all the poles were damaged it was obvious that something major was being repaired by the dozens of trucks and cranes all in one place
Trucks, lifts and cranes of all types lined the north side of the street, while all traffic was diverted to the south lane
A few other people were there taking pictures as well
Each pole was damaged or had fell down overnight
Many of the damaged and broken poles dropped their power lines on the houses below them
The largest power pole near the intersection of Kolb road was still in good shape. Probably because it is metal and had been replaced with this very tall and sturdy pole with a cell phone tower just months before the storm that damaged the other poles down the street
Jumpers were in place (assume to make the lines safe) on the power lines that were touching homes, cars, streets and sidewalks
One of the poles that was splintered by the storm and now was held in place by a crane

This looked like the worst danger. This power pole had crashed to the ground in one persons yard, and dragged the power lines down with it dropping them on the neighbors house, cars and crushing their front gate
In the neighborhood behind the power line damage a few houses had lost their roofs. Crews were already out repairing their damage
A few days later the power pole behind our offices was hit by lightning. The cross support was hit and shattered (Green arrows). This caused the two power lines (Red and Yellow arrows) to fall on to the electric supply lines to our buildings (Orange, Pink and White arrows)
