In the summer of 1989, a unique project began in Phoenix Arizona as a joint effort between the Office of Climatology / Department of Geography at Arizona State University and the Phoenix Forecast Office of the National Weather Service. That project has become known as the Arizona Thunderstorm Chasers or AZTC.
